Unpacking the Lift

The lift arrives as a heavy packaged shipment containing the column, bolster beam, platforms, ramps, power unit, hardware, and related components. Careful unpacking helps protect the equipment and reduces the risk of injury or damage.

Before You Begin

Plan to unload and unpack the lift on a smooth, stable surface near the intended installation area. A forklift is recommended because the packaged lift weighs close to 1,700 pounds, not including optional accessories.

Wear gloves and safety glasses before cutting the steel shipping bands. The bands are under tension and may spring apart when cut. Heavy components may also shift after the bands are released.

Recommended Unpacking Sequence

1. Cut the shipping bands carefully. Stand to the side of the bands while cutting them with metal shears or tin snips.
2. Remove the power unit. Carefully lift the power unit from the top of the package and place it in a safe location.
3. Remove the upper components. Using a forklift, carefully remove the bolster beam, platforms, and ramps from the top of the package. Place them near the intended installation area.
4. Remove loose items. Take out the hardware box, safety bars, and any other loose components stored inside the column.
5. Release the column. Using a forklift, support the column and remove the bolts securing it to the shipping brackets.
6. Move the column into position. Place it near the planned installation location, keeping the final lift orientation in mind.
7. Inspect the shipment. Check all components for visible damage and confirm that no parts appear to be missing.

Handling Heavy Components

The column, bolster beam, and platforms are heavy. Use appropriate lifting equipment and enough people to move each component safely. Do not attempt to handle heavy parts alone.

Whenever possible, move the larger components with a forklift, dolly, pallet jack, or engine hoist. Smaller pieces may usually be handled by one or two people.

Do Not Rush This Step

Unpacking is the first hands-on stage of installation. Taking time to organize the parts, inspect the shipment, and place the components near the installation area will make the remaining work easier and safer.
